I'd say at this point go for the first version of the patch, but with an
eye towards improving things in the multiple paths case. (A breath first
search sounds like a good idea, but could be more expensive if paths "all
the way down" have already been explored. Also, there's the notion of
assigning a cost to a morphism which has not been exploited.)
