Comment:

 Peter Jeremy has found a cleaner way of testing the compiler, which I
 intend using. It makes use of the pre-processor in exactly the same way,
 but it is simpler to maintain, they way Peter wrote it.

 This needs a bit of further testing, so I've stuck it back to 'needs work'
 for now. Then hopefully it can be reviewed when I've uploaded a couple of
 revised versions of testcc.sh and testcxx.sh
