 I realised that when I looked at the code I noticed something that I think
 is really not a good idea:
 {{{
         sage: R.<x,y> = QQ[]
         sage: EllipticCurve( x^3+1 )
         Elliptic Curve defined by y^2 = x^3 + 1 over Rational Field
 }}}
 In this case, the variety defined by {{{x^3+1}}} has a very clear affine
 interpretation: 3 vertical lines. This is not an elliptic curve and should
 not be accepted as valid input. It was only later that I realized that
 it's this patch that introduces this use pattern. It shouldn't.
