 Of course, it will be nice when the capabilities are doctested.

 Regarding using "straight matplotlib", that would be a bit annoying, since
 all my plot commands are in Sage, so I have to get at the secret
 underlying matplotlib fig/canvas, right?  Or rewrite all my code to use
 pylab directly.   I don't want to do that "on principle".
