For the record, this is how gcc 4.4.4 was configured by me:

--with-gmp=/usr/local --with-mpfr=/usr/local
Thread model: posix
gcc version 4.4.4 (GCC)

using the Sun linker and GNU assembler, as recommended at
http://gcc.gnu.org/install/specific.html#ix86-x-solaris210
