impression from the configure script was that this would make libtool pick
up the correct library paths (the output from '{{{gcc -m64 -print-search-
dirs}}}' you gave above).
I just checked spkg-install and see I had not done this at all. I will
check that later. If that works, the solution would be a lot less hackish.
I need to go out now, so will not be able to do this for a few hours.
