 Is it possible to have a unified patch?  It is very difficult to follow
 exactly what is happening for someone who just discovered this ticket :)

 Also, this is the Scipy one, correct?  Is there also a GSL desolver which
 could be wrapped and put here (I think the current ones are all from
 Maxima)?  That would be very natural, or perhaps as an `algorithm=`
 argument.
