Okay, the constructor is not so important anyway. If we get reports that
the representation string is annoying, though, I'll open another ticket.
Otherwise ENTHUSIASTIC positive review for a great addition. Very minor
changes (including putting a helper function somewhere it won't hurt
doctest coverage, and a few typesetting things) attached in a reviewer
patch. Documentation now looks great, passes tests.
