 Here you need to apply the patch and run Sage (step 4).  Sage must be run,
 with the patch applied, from the original build directory, to properly
 initialize the pkconfig files and the sage-current-location.txt file.

 After applying the patch, making sure there is no sage-current-
 location.txt file, then running Sage once, only *then* should you move the
 directory.

 comp.unix.shell] I reckon this could be done in a very short unix shell

 More than just the pkgconfig files are being updated, so it's not just
 that simple.  However, a sufficiently talented (or un-busy) shell
 programmer could do the job, probably.
