 I feel your pain but it seems like autotools can't find a way to lock
 files on taurus:

 autom4te: cannot lock autom4te.cache/requests with mode 2: No locks
 available
 autom4te: forgo `make -j' or use a file system that supports locks

 and it seems like the system clock is wayyy off on iras:
 {{{
 checking whether build environment is sane... configure: error: newly
 created file is older than distributed files!
 Check your system clock
 }}}
 Its possible that p7 had less sanity checks because it used slightly older
 autotools. But I don't see anything issue that can be addressed on the
 spkg level. You can't safely use parallel make without locking and you
 can't use make without a reasonable timekeeping device.
