 Hi Joris,

 The "blow up" was caused apparently by a small mistake in
 _create_pt_ode_system, see the comments in the parametric_surface3d.py.
 Also this problem appears if the curve goes out the coordinate system (see
 the worksheet parallel_translation).

 Now I will try to do something on calculation of the principal curvatures.
 Also, maybe I will manage to do the example of the surface you wrote
 about.
