I have implemented the best I could easily do. I am sure that by utilising
Singular, one can make a much faster implementation of weighted_degree;
indeed, as far as I could gather, Singular has weighted degree
functionality as part of the deg()-function, but I don't have the
prerequisites for writing this code.
The patch I have uploaded uses Sage methods to iterate through all
monomials of the polynomial, calculating each one's weighted degree, and
selects the maximal of these.
