I think I found another consequence of not exporting `BUILD`: because of
the [http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/9906 stupid way] the RPy
package is installed, its build directory ends up being
`SAGE_ROOT/spkg/rpy2-2.0.8`, rather than
`SAGE_ROOT/spkg/build/rpy2-2.0.8`.
