 Well, the SLES install we have does not include gfortran so at the moment
 we have to get it from gcc-4.6.1. I have had some experience building gcc
 on power (power5 so far power7 any days now, ok so I had a G4 too)and it
 is a bit dodgy at times. I am not sure if it is dodgier on linux or AIX.
 On AIX I haven't had a g++ free of problems for example. I suspect that
 the gcc on silius could use a bit of massaging, the question is where and
 how. And finally it could very well be an obscure gcc bug that only shows
 up on power.
