Indeed, I also had to apply
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/attachment/ticket/4539/trac4539_fix_docs_32bit.patch
here for 32-bit systems. So, I think, it is necessary.
BTW: it seems that this ticket depends on #11115.
