 For this ticket or a follow-up: it would be nice to be able to set
 `MAKE=make -j -l30`, for example, and have tests pass.  Building this way
 works, but I get lots of doctest failures as
 [http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/12016#comment:27 mentioned
 above].  Maybe we could read the argument for `-l` for a cap on the
 threads for doctesting?  Or use the number of cpus for this cap?
