 I hit this independently using deepcopy(). In sage-4.7:

 {{{
 sage: f = function('f',x)
 sage: deepcopy(f)
 f(x)
 }}}

 and in 4.8.alpha5:

 {{{
 sage: f = function('f',x)
 sage: deepcopy(f)
 ...
 RuntimeError: unknown function 'f' in archive
 }}}
