Comment:

 Personally, I think that the best way to use SageTeX is to copy
 sagetex.sty into the folder with the main *.tex file. This eliminates or
 at least reduces issues with version incompatibility and allows easy
 distribution of such papers - you can send everything in that folder to
 your colleague and it will compile without necessity to have Sage or
 SageTeX installed.
