it is written that it's probably a bug in Apple's blas/lapack. A
workaround is to use Atlas. I have no way to check this at the moment, but
it looks very reasonable to me.
Do you mean Apple's ATLAS? We don't build ATLAS on Mac OS X, we just use
the system's libraries. What should I do to try this out? Can I just make
some changes in the spkg-install script?

I've tried this with various versions of Xcode, including the newly
released 4.3, and I get failures in all of them.
