 Sorry, I made a mistake. I did not have a recent Sage at hand on Solaris,
 so I tried that out without custom.py. (I need to fix that upstream again.
 Your patch is a good work around.)

 CFLAGS are flags for pure C, CCFLAGS for C or C++.
