 Arrgh. That's nasty. The reason for the doctest problems is that meanwhile
 there are multivariate power series rings -- but there are still no
 multivariate Laurent series rings.

 Spontaneously, I suggest a temporary work-around: In the case of
 multivariate case, the old behaviour (namely: using a formal fraction
 field) should be used, until multivariate Laurent series are available.
