I'm completely with mraum here. In fact I have run tests like you suggest
to set the current parameters. You'll find optimal parameters differ
*dramatically* depending on the computer and the OS... e.g., Mac OS X
could be totally different than one linux; Intel versus AMD, etc. I can
see almost no point in doing what you suggest above. Either do things
right (with a database for many machines), or leave it.
