Some more data...
I've run successfuly ell_tate_curve (i.e. without error) 10000 on 5.0.rc0
plus #715, #11521, #12313, #11943 and #12357 over the night.
I've just retested it without #11943 and #12357 and got the failure after
19 and the 13 tries.
On 5.1.beta0 plus #12313 I got not failure after about 14200 runs of
ell_tate_curve.
I'm relaunching it with #12877 applied to see if I get more (un)lucky.
Anyway, I'll use 5.0.rc0 plus #715, #11521, #12313 as a base to try to
investigate that.
