The problem is that some people get too eager to remove whitespace or
insist on patchbot not showing any whitespace mistakes while others don't
want to work on new patches if whitespaces are the only issue, and I
cannot blame them. I am pretty sure that nobody adds whitespaces on
purpose, but having some is not such a problem. Perhaps limiting the
overall line length would be better. By the way - will the switch to git
help somehow with whitespaces and patches that have conflicts because of
them only?
