Rather than code like this:

if not os.path.exists(cache_dir):
os.mkdir(cache_dir)
}}}
you should use `sage.misc.misc.sage_makedirs` (or copy-paste the code from
there). A try-except block is safer than testing whether than the
directory exists first.
