The plan was disclosed by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Finance Ministry's Director-General for Tax, Darmin Nasution, after attending a meeting to discuss the new tax rule today (6/6) in Jakarta. The Finance Minister said the government has planned to analyze all the possibilities before implementing the plan. Earlier, the Shanghai Stock Exchange had raised tariffs of tax on stock transactions from 0.1% at 0.3%. The measure had caused the exchange to decline in several trading days, but the market rturned to normal while the new tariffs are expected to bring an additional tax revenue of US$60 million. Meanwhile, Darmin Nasution said the government had once proposed to increase tariffs of tax on stock transaction activities from 0.1% to 0.3%. "We once proposed such tax increase during the previous minister but the proposal was refused," he recalled.
