Nippon Mining to produce secondary tin Release date:
27 Jul 2007 Japan’s Nippon Mining & Metals is to build a
precious and base metals recycling plant near Tokyo that could produce 500 tpy
of secondary tin from 2009.

Platts Commodity News reports that the Hitachi Metal Recycling Complex will
produce precious metals, indium, nickel, and tin by leaching electronic and
auto component scrap collected mainly in the Tokyo metropolis. Intermediate
copper material produced at the company's Saganoseki copper smelting plant in
western Japan, will also be used.

The plant will be located within an existing Nippon Mining copper refining and
electronic components manufacturing complex in Hitachi City.

Japanese secondary refined tin production is usually some 700 tpy, although
output rose to 853 tonnes last year.
