Jika r bernilai positif maka akan terjadi kemungkinan 1. Jika r = 0 atau mendekati 0 maka akan terjadi kemungkinan 2. Jika r bernilai negatif maka akan terjadi kemungkinan 3. Nilai r berada antara -1 dan + 1. Semakin besar nilai r (dengan kata lain mendekati +1) atau semakin kecil nilai r (dengan kata lain mendekati -1) maka semakin YAKIN kemungkinan-kemungkinan tersebut terjadi. Saat ini nilai r dengan mudah dapat dicari melalui Excel. Berikut perolehan nilai r untuk periode 28 Desember 2012 – 4 April 2013: BKSL: -0.19 PGAS: -0.16 UNVR: -0.15 WSKT: -0.14 TLKM: -0.13 ASII: -0.09 ASRI: -0.05 TOTL: 0.00 UNTR: 0.08 LPCK: 0.09 ITMG: 0.25 Dari contoh di atas, ITMG memiliki r terbesar. Ini berarti, jika harga turun maka mungkin akan turun lagi, namun jika harga berbalik naik maka besar kemungkinan harga masih akan naik besok.
