Indonesia year-end inflation seen at 6.3-6.4 percent; limited impact from floods
JAKARTA (Thomson Financial) - Indonesia's inflation is expected to reach 6.3-6.4 percent at the end of the year, near the government's target of 6.5 percent, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said Thursday. "We have had floods in certain areas of late but the impact (of the floods) on the country's inflation rate should be limited," Sri Mulyani told reporters. There had been no report of food shortage as the government had anticipated torrential rains and flooding at this time of the year, she said. The monsoon season in Indonesia is between December and end-February. "I think the government has stepped in quick enough to ensure that there is basic food supply in the flood-affected areas," she said. The government is expecting the Indonesian economy to expand by 6.4 percent in the fourth quarter, bringing full-year GDP growth to 6.3 percent, in line with the government's target.
