Reuters Wall Street opens higher Thursday January 17, 9:41 am ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks rose at the open on Thursday as investors snapped up beaten-down technology shares, while a government report showing a drop in weekly jobless claims calmed concerns about the labor market. The Dow Jones industrial average (DJI:^DJI - News) was up 12.35 points, or 0.10 percent, at 12,478.51. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index (^SPX - News) was up 0.45 point, or 0.03 percent, at 1,373.65. The Nasdaq Composite Index (Nasdaq:^IXIC - News) was up 13.50 points, or 0.56 percent, at 2,408.09. (Reporting by Ellis Mnyandu; Editing by Kenneth Barry)
