NUSA DUA, Indonesia (Dow Jones)--Indonesia's on-month inflation rate is likely nearing its peak, while high inflation numbers in July aren't unusual as the month marks the beginning of the new school year, a senior central bank official said Friday. Bank Indonesia will continue to anchor inflation expectations, and "doesn't always look at the past data (alone), but also at the prospect of future risks" of inflation, Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor Miranda Goeltom told reporters on the island of Bali. Her comments came after the Central Statistics Agency said earlier that the consumer price index rose 11.90% on year and 1.37% on month in July. The CPI had risen 11.03% on year and 2.46% on month in June. Goeltom said that any easing of the on-year inflation rate will likely lag a softening in the on-month inflation rate, as last year's mild inflation numbers provide a low base. Goeltom is in Bali to attend a summit on microfinancing.
