Two leading supermarket chains have stopped selling Indomie instant noodles
after Taiwan authorities found banned preservatives in the Indonesian
product.

Taiwan authorities announced the recall of Indomie instant noodles on Friday
after two forbidden preservatives, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate and benzoic
acid, were found. The preservatives are allowed only in cosmetics.

They have been banned for use in food in Taiwan, Canada and Europe. If
consumed, the preservatives cause vomiting. Furthermore, if they are taken
for long periods or in substantial amounts, they may cause metabolic
acidosis - a condition due to too much acid.

ParknShop and Wellcome have removed all Indomie products from the shelves of
their supermarkets.
