China Will Take Multiple Tools To Curb Inflation, Premier Says

Sunday - April 10, 2011

MarketCall.Net - China will continue to implement prudent monetary policies and
tools including open-market operations, reserve requirement ratios, interest
rates and foreign exchange rates to curb inflation and support economic growth,
Premier Wen Jiabao said Saturday.

On Tuesday, the central bank raised its key interest rates for the second time
this year. The bank has hiked the reserve requirement three times this year
after raising it six times last year.

The government gives top priority to price stability, he said. The central
government has taken measures like controlling issuance of money, increasing
production, ensuring supply and improving distribution networks in an effort to
control prices. Local governments should also implement such measures, Wen
added.

Wen said local governments should shoulder the responsibility for tightening
regulation in the property market as the problems in housing supply and
property prices impact the health of economic development.
