European stock markets opened lower on Monday, with losses led by financial stocks, with shares of Societe Generale SA FR:GLE -1.81% off 2.4%, Credit Agricole SA FR:ACA -1.67% down 2.2% and Natixis SA FR:KN -1.38% losing 2.5%. The Stoxx Europe 600 ST:STOXX600 -0.19% fell 0.5% to 279.10. Autos were also lower, with BMW AG DE:BMW -0.85% down 1.8%, Volkswagen AG DE:VOW3 -1.30% off 1.6% and Renault SA FR:RNO -1.23% down 2%. The German DAX 30 index DX:DAX -0.51% fell 0.9% to 7,338.07, while the French CAC 40 index FR:PX1 -0.81% down 1.2% to 3,971.12. The FTSE 100 UK:UKX -0.17% fell 0.4% to 5,902.09.
