The EUR/USD rallies to a 5-day high to 1.4269 from 1.4219 late Wednesday on rising confidence that the EU is set to announce bailout package for Greece. While dollar-denominated commodities appear cheaper to holders of other currencies when the greenback weakens, a default by a euro-zone member or a failure to raise the U.S. debt limit is likely to rattle global markets and cloud the demand outlook for commodities. After a short rally in industrial metals earlier this week, investors cashed out Wednesday on continuing uncertainty in Europe and in the U.S. debt issues. LME 3-month copper closed down 0.9% at $9,755/ton. "Momentum divergence forces us to temper our bullish view for copper," says Barclays Capital. It adds there is a risk of an initial dip toward $9,500/ton. LME 3-month tin was the only metal which finished higher, closing up 1.5% at $28,300/ton.
