HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- South Korea's stock exchange briefly halted program trading early afternoon Friday as the main stock index and futures indexes plunged more than 5%. The Korea Exchange halted computer-generated program trading for five minutes shortly after 1:00 p.m. local time (1:00 a.m. Eastern) in an effort to arrest the selling plunge, with stocks later recovering somewhat. Midway into the afternoon session the Kospi was down 4.8% at 1,771.73.
