IMQ, Jakarta --- Ada kondisi yang kontradiktif terkait dengan
perusahaan tambang tembaga dan emas Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.
Di satu sisi, kehidupan mayoritas masyarakat Papua, yang menjadi lokasi
tambang Freeport, masih terbelakang, namun pemegang saham perusahaan ini
justru bakal makin tajir.
Hal itu terungkap dalam keterangan tertulis Freeport, Selasa (7/2),
bahwa perusahaan ini telah meningkatkan dividen tahunan untuk saham
biasa menjadi US$1,25 per saham dari sebelumnya US$1 per saham.
"Kenaikan dividen ini mencerminkan kekuatan keuangan kami dan prospek
positif terhadap bisnis kami," kata James Moffett, chairman
Frreport-McMoRan.
Dividen itu akan dibayarkan secara kuartalan, dengan pembayaran tahap
awal sebesar 31,25 sen per saham, yang diharapkan dilakukan pada Mei 2012.
Sementara itu, sebelum berita itu dirilis, saham Freeport-McMoRan turun
2,1%.
