Tony, are you using the maven plugin as the external build tool within
eclipse?
I'm not sure exactly how to do that.
I have set up as part of the maven build process to filter and replace
${jdbc.driverClassName} with the actual value from settings.xml file.

Try doing mvn compile at the command line when you see this error and
see if that fixes it.
