It's trying to be a common event recording system across e-learning. It has a general structure of Actor,Verb,Object like an RDF triple. It's a start. The bigger challenge, to me, is normalizing the vocabulary, not the syntax.
For edtech research, it could be a vehicle to get student activity data into a school's LMS, or read from it to shape the research-based activity. Again, it's hard to do anything useful with that data without some shared semantics.
