There were a lot of animation issues in this episode. The length of
the chain seems to grow and shrink, especially when they're in the
cave. Usagi runs out of the bushes with a smile on her face, then it
goes to a commercial, and when it comes back she's back in the bushes
and doesn't smile. Moon throws herself at an enemy and then she's
suddenly on the ground.

I also wonder about Uranus' decision to leave Neptune. Did they
really make a pact that any time either of them were in the least bit
of danger the other one would just run away? How did they survive up
to this point? I would understand if they agreed to do that for more
extreme situations, but in this case it doesn't make sense.

Despite Ami's character development episode, the writers just use her
as a comic foil (and an unfunny one at that; the joke of "Ami is just
studying even though they're doing X" was pretty old even in season 1.

Despite those problems, this is a decent episode. It's the first time
that the philosophies of U&N and Moon clash with each other.

It really seemed like a cowardly move on Uranus' part. I can
understand that the writers needed to show a dramatic contrast between
U&N's philosophy and that ofSailorMoon's, but I think it could have
been done better. The danger should have been much, much greater to
prompt Uranus to simply abandon Neptune like that.

The dub writers have really gone off the deep end with thisepisode.
I'm convinced that they had only the vaguest idea of theSailorMoon
storyline and are simply translating eachepisodeas they come to it.
I think that relationship developments and plot twists end up being as
much a surprise to them as it is to the intended audience.

Initially, the writers had left the relationship between Amara and
Michelle (Haruka and Michiru) rather vague, which was in the same
manner as the original. However, once the Naru/Uminoepisodeshowed
up, it became painful clear (even to the script writers) that the H&M
relationship was something much more then a casual friendship. That
was the firstepisodethat we get a brief voice over (from Ami, I
think) stating that A&M are "cousins". Then, in the Makotoepisode,
they explain that they are cousins who grew up together and have been
inseparable since birth (I don't remember how the dub ended up
handlingepisode106, where we find out that H&M had actually only met
each other a short time ago). It seems like this latestepisodetakes
the cousin references to an insane degree, bringing it up in every
other line that they are cousins, cousins, cousins, even to the extent
that both Kaolinite andSailorMoonrefer to Uranus and Neptune as
cousins. Huh? Since when did anyone yet know anything about the
identities or relationship of U&N? In fact, it's a pretty big deal
near the end of thisepisodethat Usagi is only just starting to
realize that Uranus and Haruka may be one and the same.
