AUM SAI RAM

"A mother's heart is as soft as butter." as the saying goes. This happens to be
so very true when we speak of the heart of Our Loving Sai Mother.

It was in November 1990. We arrived at Prasanti Nilayam by coach from the
airport. Late in the evening, we stood in a line in front of the Western
canteen. We waited there patiently for supper. An elderly lady jumped the
queue. She abruptly squeezed herself in between me and the lady standing before
me. 'Sairam! Sairam!' I uttered. 'I am so hungry!' she said. 'It's ok, Mausi!'
I replied, allowing her to snuggle comfortably in the line. 'What do they serve
as food?' she asked. I gave her a brief account of the various dishes and added
'you have to pay a nominal sum of money for the meal.' At this, she became very
angry. 'No! I am not going to pay for the meal! Is this an ashram or not? Baba
is God or not? I have incurred so many expenses to come here.' She went on and
on until I stopped her. 'Listen, Mausi, you are hurting the feelings of Baba.
He is omnipresent and He is listening to you. Please stop it! Let me pay for
your meal!'

Later, she told me that she had come to Parthi to give a letter to Baba. Her
grandson had a brain tumour. Her daughter had written to Baba. All of a sudden,
I became worried for her. I wondered whether Baba would take her letter after
the incident in front of the canteen. He must be very angry or at least, he
must be very upset.

The following day, I met the elderly lady again. 'You look very happy, Mausi!'
'Yes, I am very happy indeed, beti!' she replied. 'After morning darshan, I sat
under the veranda. A seva dal came up and I told her that I had to give a
letter to Baba. As a matter of fact, it was raining heavily in the morning, the
letter was completely soaked and my daughter's handwriting had washed out
entirely. At that very moment, Baba came out. I stood up. He stood by my side.
He lovingly held my hands in his and politely asked me what the problem was. I
explained everything to him. He listened attentively. His heart melted like
butter. He told me that my grandson will be ok. He materialised 'vibhuti' and
poured it in my palm.'

Well, dear readers, I was spell bound! So much Love! So much Compassion! Baba
had earlier, in October 1990 said to other elders gathered under the veranda.
-" When you come to your mother's house ,it is your mother's duty to fill your
heart and your hand, make you happy and make you go!" Our Sai Mother is the
very embodiment of selfless Love and of unlimited forgiveness- an example for
all of us, mothers, to follow. JAI SAI RAM
