Out of the Thousands of Indian Colleges and Universities, only the Sri Sathya 
Sai University was able to obtain the much coveted "A++" grade in 2002 ( The 
NAAC conducts their accreditations every 5 years)

"The National Assessment and Accreditation Council or NAAC is an autonomous 
body of the University Grants Commission based at Bangalore. Various Colleges 
have to get the accreditation every five years. While it was stars earlier, it 
is the system of Grades now.

There are about Seven criteria on which the various Colleges are assessed, like 
infrastructure, research facilities and teaching methods among other things. 
There are nine grades: A++, A+, A, B++, B+,B,C++,C+, and C. In the whole of 
India, there is only one college which has A++, that is the Sri Sathya Sai 
Institute of Higher Learning, Prasanthi Nilayam. Grants from the UGC and 
recognition for more courses are based on these ranks

In 2007 Out of a massive 3632 accredited Colleges and Universities in India 
only two Institutes received the highest "A++" Grades : Sri Sathya Sai 
University and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research
