      A Guide to Patients in pdf format has been  released by the Sri Sathya 
Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram, along with 
the sister institution in Whitefield, Bangalore,  The pdf  as well as in doc

       Guide to patients

      All the patients enter the hospital through the patient gate. Patient 
gate opens at 5:00 am in the morning. Soon after your entry, the volunteers 
(sevadal) in blue scarves, would give you a token for the respective department 
you have come to visit. The token number denotes your position in the queue. 
Please bring your old medical reports that you may have. You may then proceed 
to the Screening and Registration Block (SRB). Only one attendant will be 
allowed to enter the campus with a patient. You can also take an appointment 
beforehand through email or post.

      Screening and Registration Block

      At the Screening and Registration Block (SRB), the patients will be 
directed to the appropriate counter, for Cardiology, Urology, Ophthalmology, 
Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery. Gastroenterology patients, should first visit 
the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Puttaparthi, and on their referral should 
visit SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram. Once seen by the doctor and registered the 
patients should then visit the respective OPD.

      Important instructions

      Please bring a valid proof of address.  Any one of the following proofs 
are accepted.

      Driving license

      PAN Card

Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram, along 
with the sister institution in Whitefield, Bangalore, stands out as a beacon of

      Location

      The Hospital is around 3 km from the Sri Satya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam 
railway station (Puttaparthi) and 7 km from the Prasanthi Nilayam ashram and 
the adjoining bus terminus. Generally trains going via Dharmavaram to Bangalore 
or Chennai from the North, West and East halt at the station. While trains from 
the South passing through Penukonda generally halt at the Sri Sathya Sai 
Prasanthi Nilayam station. Patients are advised to refer to the Indian Railway 
train time table for detailed information. Overnight buses are available from 
Chennai and Hyderabadto Puttaparthi, which stop right outside the hospital 
premises. From Bangalore, buses to Puttaparthi are available from early morning 
to evening from the Kempe Gowda Inter-State Bus Terminus, popularly knows as 
Majestic bus stand.

      Specialities

      The SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram was inaugurated by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai 
Baba along with the then Prime Minister of India Sri. P.V. Narasimha Rao. The 
hospital as of today offers free tertiary care in seven specialties as 
described below:

      The hospital provides treatment in the following specialities:

      Cardiology: The Department of Cardiology began functioning on November 
22, 1991. With complex procedures being performed free of cost, patients visit 
the department from all over the country.

      Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery (CTVS) : An entire gamut of cardiac 
surgeries, except heart transplants have been routinely performed by the 
department. On an average over 1,000 procedures every year.

      Urology : All major surgeries of the kidney, bladder, ureter, prostate, 
urethra are performed at the department. Further, endoscopic surgeries like 
TUR, ‘P’/URSL/, PCNL/ CYTOSCOPY/VIU are routinely performed for prostate, 
stones and strictures. Open surgeries for stone, cancer of the kidney, bladder,

      Ophthalmology: The department has a modern operation theatre complex with

      Plastic Surgery: The department of Plastic Surgery began functioning at 
the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, from July 1997. The department has seen patient 
inflow not only from the adjoining areas, but also from various parts of the 
country and abroad.

      Orthopaedics: The department was opened at SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, as a 
full service facility on July 11, 2006, providing complete orthopaedic care. 
The facility is equipped with most modern high technology equipment and is 
staffed by well qualified, experienced consultants.

      Gastroenterology (endoscopy): The latest addition to the SSSIHMS, 
Prasanthigram, is the department of Gastroenterology. The department was 
inaugurated by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on July 12th, 2008. Currently the 
department is offering only Endoscopy services.
