Will bring back Mideast Indians: SM Krishna
BANGALORE: The ministry of external affairs has all its emergency operations in place in the wake of political unrest in Bahrain. "We are prepared for any eventuality. There is no reason to panic, and we will bring all Indians living in Bahrain, Yemen and Oman safely just as we did for the 17,250 people evacuated from Libya," foreign minister S M Krishna said. He had called a meeting with the ambassadors of Bahrain, Yemen and Oman in the capital on Monday. They made a presentation on the emergency operations. There are 7.5 lakh Indians in Oman, 3.5 lakh in Bahrain and 14,000 in Yemen. "We have situation rooms which have details about the street, town, nearest port and airport and addresses of people in these countries. The Bahrain government has called in forces from Saudi Arabia to put down the unrest," Raghavendra Shastri, adviser to Krishna said.
