The dynamic Chief Medical Officer of PPT retires.

Dr.Nikhil Kumar Mohanty, the Chief Medical Officer of Paradip Port Trust (PPT) 
hospital and one of the best opthalmologist of India retired from his Port 
Trust services on 30th June 2012. After achiving 6th position in Pre university 
science examination of Utkal University and after passing from the SCB medical 
college in April 1976, he joined PPT on 03rd May 1976 as a Medical Officer cum 
Assistant Surgeon . Thereafter he did not look back. With his hard work and 
dedication, Dr.NK Mohanty was promoted to an Eye Specialist, Deputy Chief 
Medical Officer and finally promoted to Chief Medical Officer in August 2002. 
He performed more than 10000 eye operations in PPT hospital as well as various 
eye camps in and out of Paradip during his 36 years of service.  During his 
tenure, the PPT hospital achieved its glory  including PPT fulfilling its 
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He had introduced free of cost eye and 
cataract operations  of poor and needy people of the nearby villages at Paradip 
under Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts. He always made himself available 
for various eye camps, medical camps conducted by Sri Sathyasai Seva 
Organisations, Lions and Rotary Clubs. He has been volunteering his expertise 
and his services every year at the Sri Sathyasai Superspeciality hospitals at 
Prasanthi Nilayam, Puttaparthi and Whitefield, Bangalore as part of his 
contributions to the society following the teachings of Sri Sathyasai Baba, his 
revered Guru.  During his service career in the Port, he was lured by many 
private hospitals to join them with attractive remunerations and perks which he 
had declined.

Now with his retirement, many villagers who were benefited with their 
treatments in his hands, are disheartened as they were treating Dr.NK Mohanty 
as a living god. Every day, the  eye department of the PPT hospital was 
witnessing thick crowd of patients waiting to be examined by the hands of 
Dr.Mohanty. Now the crowd has gone thin. Various organisations including Sri 
Sathyasai Seva Samithy, PPT Officers Association, PPT Hospital staff honoured 
him before his retirement. He was an honest, kind hearted person loved by all 
section of people. After the retirement from PPT Dr.NK Mohanty is likely to 
dedicate himself in the Mobile Hospital project of Sri Sathyasai Seva 
Organisation, Odisha for which he is travelling to Puttparthi shortly.
