Story behind this photo – 78 - (Artist Joan Brown gave up her life while doing seva): Very recently during my visit to the North California area, I was privileged to give a talk in the Sai Center, in San Francisco. One of the devotees present spoke to me about Mrs. Joan Brown, a great internationally famous Artist. She was once attached this Sai Center. She gave up her life while rendering seva in Puttaparthi. Joan Brown (February 13, 1938 – October 26, 1990) was an American figurative painter who lived and worked in Northern California She was born in San Francisco and studied at the California School of Fine Art (now San Francisco Art Institute),. In the late 1970s, Brown became increasingly interested in spirituality and New Age ideas, eventually becoming an adherent of Sathya Sai Baba. She made a number of trips to his ashram in Puttaparthi, in India. In 1990, she died in a construction accident while installing an obelisk at the Sai Baba's Eternal Heritage Museum in Puttaparthi. The project was delayed, and her son Noel left after some weeks to return to California, and he was thus saved from the possible tragedy.. With Love & Regards, "Mumbai" Srinivasan
