Many believe that worshiping God would remove our sufferings. The real fact is
that by worshipping God, we will be able to face the ups and downs of life
courageously and calmly. Swami has clarified that Pleasure is the interval
between two pains. We can not avoid pain and accept pleasure alone. Life is
like a coin. We have to accept both sides of the coin. Swami advice all to
develop 'equal mindedness'. Though it is a difficult thing to practice by
ordinary mortals like us, yet we can train our mind to remain unattached to the
events. Hence we should not get elated at prosperity and become depressed when
things are not to our liking. Though Bagawan has come to redeem humanity and
have no karmic compulsions, yet he had undergone many tortures and troubles as
a boy. But he withstood everything with a stoic silence and he never complained
about the troubles meted out to him by his relatives or others. He bore
everything calmly. He had only one set of dress during school days. Every day
it has to be washed and dried. Due to frequent use, it was torn in places.
Swami used to join the torn portions with thorns in some shrubs. He never had a
sumptuous meal so to say. Most of the time, his meal was "Ragi with chutney".
From young days, his concern was about his devotees and friends who sought his
help in every matter. Now the entire world worship Him as the Avatar of the
age. But, how frugally he lived his entire life.
When Prasanthi Nilayam was constructed, he used to occupy a room in
the first floor with the barest furnishing. There was only one table which he
used for many cores. Even during those times, his eating habits are sparse. To
satisfy his mother and sisters, he used to munch a little from the plate and
within minutes he will finish his lunch or break fast. In later years, he used
to take one glass of Ragi only. When some devotee enquired 'how Swami get
energy from such frugal food, He replied, I give energy and i do not get it.
This is also to satisfy the devotees only. He has come to feed all the souls
both materially and spiritually. He never cared for his body or discomforts. He
used to stand for hours together distributing Laddus to the entire assembed
gatherings of devotees during birthday which will take minimum 5 to 6 hours. He
never gets tired of giving happiness to one and all. It is Pure Love which
knows only to give and not to take. We are all very fortunate to live during
the Presense of Sathya Sai Avatar. It would be of great service, If we follow
atleast one of His teachings such as 'HELP EVER, HURT NEVER!
