Shri.Suresh Wadkar is a playback singer who has sung in both Hindi and Marathi films and has also sung numerous devotional songs in various languages. He also runs music schools in Mumbai and New Jersey.
An excerpt from his article in 'Divine Grace - Sathya Sai Baba" - An India Today Impact Presentation. It was in 1967 that I first heard about Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. I was very young then and just followed my Guruji's instructions of singing for Sri Sathya Sai Baba at a foreign consulate's house. I was very amused when Baba came straight to all the children singing instead of going to the dais decorated for him. More to my amusement, he started telling the children what their names are and what they do, instead of asking them!! Though I was amused, I was too young to acknowledge Baba as 'The All Knower'. In the year 1982-83 Swami came to Dharmakshetra, and I was sitting in front to sing for him. Baba came straight to me and asked me to come to Puttaparthi. I had never imagined I would ever go to Puttaparthi in my life. After the first visit, I was totally into Baba and made umpteen trips to see him at Puttaparthi. One interesting anecdote in the trip to Whitefield ashram was about our local driver in Bangalore. Though he was driving us to see Baba at Whitefield he himself did not believe in Swami. The driver always believed that Sri Sathya Sai Baba was a trickster and had things hidden beneath his long sleeves! One evening, it happened such that the driver was also present in the Darshan lines. Baba came straight to us, rolled up his sleeves and created Vibhuti and gave some to the driver too. Needless to say, the driver fell flat at Baba's feet! The experiences of getting operated in the wonderful hospital at Puttaparthi was very touching in many ways. To see hundreds of nurses, doctors and volunteers treating thousands of patients freely everyday was something unbelievable! From the time I was admitted till the time I got discharged not a single paisa was charge. Not only that, I was given free medicines for the next 15 days after discharge too!! My healing was so fast that I sang with a Tanpura in the hospital from the 4th day itself! After getting discharged, Baba blessed me profusely with a long and happy life and promised that he would get me married in the next year. I left Parthi with a healed but heavy heart that was further beautified by a chain and pendant with Baba's picture which he created for me.
