There was an old woman in Uttar Pradesh who used to give away many things as charity. She used to go about with her head bowed. Some people asked her why she was humbling herself in that manner when she could hold her head high because of all the numerous gifts she was giving to everyone. She modestly replied, "When God is giving me so many things with His thousand hands, all that I am giving is only with a single hand. What reason is there for feeling proud about what I am doing? Should not people feel ashamed about giving to others with one hand what God gives them with a thousand hands?"
