'Art for the Heart - Guru Purnima Poetry and Story-writing' contest
In a divine discourse delivered in Prasanthi Nilayam on 20 Oct 1969, on the occasion of Dasara and Avatarhood Day, Swami said, "Poets must have elevated ideals; they must charge themselves with an enthusiastic love for the culture of the people; they must see the handiwork of God, the greatest Poet of all, in every grain of dust, in every twinkle of light, in every drop of rain, in every whiff of air. Ah, what a balm on the heart the poems and stories readers submitted to 'Art for the Heart - Guru Purnima Poetry and Story-writing' contest were. Swami said people like Valmiki and Vyasa became writers and poets only after they became great sages first with their penance and clarity of mind.
